Charlotte-bred Rainy Westerman draws inspiration from what’s close to her heart. “I was blessed to have many stylish women to look up to in my life,” the designer says. “My especially sophisticated grandmother taught me early on about basic design rules.”  That familial influence may be why Westerman loves to incorporate family antiques into her designs, which she describes as “colorful and lush with heirloom touches,” all the while keeping comfort and use in mind. “New is wonderful, custom is great, and when you mix it with timeless, especially if there is history, it can be really beautiful,” says Westerman, whose own home is chock-full of inherited family heirlooms.
